WINDOWS 6 and how to upgrade JAMA 201

This is a techno-blog for the windows mobile users especially I-mate users for whom technical support is the question, now SUPPORT IMATE is available for all new as well as old users.

Hey friends this is my third blog this months and it shows how active i am in this blog;)....Over last few days i have been receiving mails .The focus of these mails mainly is
1.)Windows 6.5 for Ultimate devices
2.)Lot of queries with Jama devices

The first requires lot of time and dedication,so with little time i had i decided to focus on the latter.
This post will focus on Jama 201 device. The Jama series were the low cost devices .Wheres all others were PDA,Jama 201 is a smartphone with looks similar to Blackberry..There is one thing that not many knows about this devices that by default it boots from memory card.It means whenever it is started ot turned on it will by default look to boot from memory card.If memory card is not present it will look in rom. This is the very reason you must have noticed why this device hangs when you have memory card inside and you restart the device.
So guys the lesson never restart the device with memory card in

Another complication with this device is how to upgrade it.The upgradation is different from other PDA,s.As it is done using memory card.I have given the steps below

How to upgrade JAMA201 devices:

  1. Format the memory card as "FAT" format
  2. Create a New Folder in the memory card.
  3. Download the rom from the link http://www.easy-share.com/1908649736/UpgradeCard_GL.zip
  4. Switch on your device & check your radio version
    1. Go to Start > Settings > ROM Version
    2. Scroll down to check the Module Software Version
    3. If the Module Software Version is GL_CMC_ then copy all the files under the upgrade card 7273 in the G drive to the SD card, deleting MOBILE_XP_BP_S71PL & renaming MOBILE_XP_BP_S71GL to MOBILE_XP_BP
    4. If the Module Software Version is PL_ or DMC_ then copy all the files under the upgrade card 7273 in the G drive to the SD card, deleting MOBILE_XP_BP_S71GL & renaming MOBILE_XP_BP_S71PL to MOBILE_XP_BP
  5. Remove the flash card from your PC
  6. Remove the battery & place the SD card in then place the battery back in
  7. The LED should start flashing indicating the upgrade process is in progress
  8. Once the LED turns GREEN, remove the battery & the SD card then place the battery back in.
  9. If the battery is low the CP will not be installed. Therefore it is better to plug in the device on the charger at this stage to have a successful installation for the CP.

To apply force upgrade:

  1. You need to press & hold the reset button once you place the battery in & the LED is on.
  2. Unhold once the following messages are displayed on the screen: Checking version.. Updating OS.. & the LED starts flashing slower.
  3. Wait till the LED becomes GREEN
  4. Remove battery & SD card then place battery back in.
  5. If the battery is low the CP will not be installed. Therefore it is better to plug in the device on the charger at this stage to have a successful installation for the CP.

To hard reset the device, please press & hold the POWER & RESET buttons for 10 seconds.

All if done properly the rom upgrade is successful.

How to skip align screen

This is a techno-blog for the windows mobile users especially I-mate users for whom technical support is the question, now SUPPORT IMATE is available for all new as well as old users.

Recently my device Jasjam and Jaq3 were stuck at align screen....Both together .What a pity....
I know a little registry hacking could help to skip it but it requires a lot time .So i searched if there is any software that could do the trick and help to skip the align screen option .

I then found this very interesting tool to skip it....
All you have to do is connect your imate device to your computer with sync software running.
Don,t let the device sync and run the tool....It gives an option to skip the align screen. If done successfully it will restart the device and voila you have skipped the align screen.......

It seems that this software works with all devices. You can download it from link below

Windows 6.5 and Windows 6 Telstra rom for Jasjam

This is a techno-blog for the windows mobile users especially I-mate users for whom technical support is the question, now SUPPORT IMATE is available for all new as well as old users.

We have managed to cook windows 6.5 for Jasjam(thanks to tools i downloaded from XDA developers). The link for same is provided below

http://www.easy-share.com/1907768797/jasjam windows 6.5.zip

This is a cooked rom and will void your warranty. We will not be responsible for damage done to device due to this ,though if you face any issues ,we will provide email assistance..

Download the compressed file and extract it and save it in your computer

Before you run the ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU), make sure you check and do the following first:
1. USB sync cable is connected to the computer.
2. The standby and hibernation modes are disabled on the computer.
3. All running applications on the computer have been closed.
4. USB sync cable is connected to the Mobile Device to establish an ActiveSync connection with the computer.
5. Do not interact with your Mobile Device unless instructed to do so.

You will find ROM upgradation kit.Run it and follow the steps. This will first take the device into bootloader mode and it will automatically push Des's SSPL to your phone (As i said before thanks to XDA Developer for this as this downloaded upgrade consists of a ROM upgrade Utility made by Olipro in XDA developers)

It will then load the nbh file you will find in downloaded files which is the one i have cooked specifically for Jasjam. If the above lines confuse you forget them and just run the rom upgradation kit and patiently follow the steps for next 20 minutes.

The result will be sweeter, you will have windows 6.5......is,nt that great......

Now if you don,t wanna take the risk, the official rom for windows 5 is available at their website, however i have managed to get hold of windows 6 rom for telstra users which i have uploaded in link below.

http://www.easy-share.com/1907769213/RUU_Hermes_DL_UK_3.62.305.5_6275_1.54.30.10_108_Ship.exe

Download it and run it in similar way. This rom consists of few extra feature to make it easier for you to connect it to Telstra WAP sites. If you do not live in Australia and want the official windows rom ...wait I am in a process to extract the extra Telstra stuff and get the official windows 6 rom for you....

You face any issues with these ROM i will help you out, just mail me at sashaelectronics@hotmail.com

Thanks and Regards,

Hardware buttons for Jasjam

This is a techno-blog for the windows mobile users especially I-mate users for whom technical support is the question, now SUPPORT IMATE is available for all new as well as old users.

There are some hardware buttons that Jasjam users are not normally aware. These buttons are also same for other devices mentioned which are Jasjam alike .Have a look at them ,they will come handy

Cycle through mail accounts

If you keep on pressing the Envelope (messaging) hardware button it cycles the Outlook Mail, Text messages, Hotmail, MMS accounts. Really nice since you do not need to hit the menu button. Pressing left/Right on the d-pad does this too.

Screen alignment

For all the Jasjam users having the alignment issues, the D-Pad and messaging key combo goes straight to screen calibration tool.Press the D-Pad first follow by Messaging key.

Scrolling Contacts without Stylus

When in 'Contacts' hold down ‘down’ on the dpad. It'll start scrolling the list for approx 5 seconds, then a 'pop up window' appears with a large letter A. Use the dpad to select appropriate contact start letter. Makes it easier to scroll through the contacts without having to get the stylus out. Unfortunately, if you have a large number of contacts, you can never hold down the scroll button to get to the end of your particular letter. Not so nice. :/

Slick One-Handed Navigation on the Today Screen

Using the OK button directly below the Scroll Wheel while on the Today Screen will open the Start Menu. This makes it extremely easy to navigate and launch applications with just your thumb -- press OK, Scroll, and Scroll-click to select!

Jump to the Today screen.

When in any app, you can press the start hardware button twice to take you back to the today screen. The Call Hangup button also performs this task. But watch out during a call since it will end your call instead of taking you to the today screen!

Silence an incoming call.

When you have an incoming call and don't want to answer it and the ringing annoys you, scroll the side wheel down. This lets the incoming call continue but mutes the ringtone. . This may not work with third-party ringtone apps

Recent phone calls list with scroll wheel.

In the phone application, click Up or Right on the D-pad OR scroll up with the scroll wheel. Select a call with the scroll wheel and click the wheel in to dial that number.

Speed dial shortcut.

In the phone application, click Down or Left on the D-pad OR scroll down with the scroll wheel. Select a call with the scroll wheel and click the wheel in to dial that number.

Disconnect from GPRS.

When you have a GPRS connection, press and hold the red phone button for two seconds.

Transfer call sound to speaker

When in answering or in a call hold down the green phone button for a few seconds and sound will be transfered to the external speaker.

Shut down device completely

When the phone is on, press and hold the power button for about 5 seconds, until a message pops up "Power will be turned off... Do you want to continue?". Click Yes to shut down the phone.

Silence the phone volume

Press and hold the comm manager button for 2 seconds and the phone sounds and ringer volume will be set to vibrate. Repeat process to turn sounds back on. UPDATE: if the above method does not work for you, try to scroll the jog button down.
