on your device with your PC, as well as pictures, video, and music.

• Synchronize Outlook E-mail, Contacts, Calendar appointments, and Tasks on your

device directly with Exchange Server so that you can stay up to date even when your

PC is turned off.

• Copy files between your device and your PC without synchronizing.

Set up Windows Mobile Device Center on the computer.

1. Install WMDC on your PC.After Setup completes, the Synchronization Setup Wizard automatically starts when you connect your device to the PC.

2. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the wizard. In the Sync Setup Wizard, do one or both of the following:

• Create a synchronization relationship between your PC and your device or “Setup Your device”.

• “Connect without setting up your device”.

3. Choose the information types to synchronize.

When you finish the wizard, WMDC synchronizes your device automatically. Once

synchronization completes, you can disconnect your device from your PC.

Troubleshooting (1)

Check for Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 according to bit version of Windows Vista 32/64 bit.. Download link is as below...

To find out whether your version of Windows Vista is 32-bit or 64-bit, click Start, right- click Computer, and then click Properties. The version is listed after System Type.

Troubleshooting (2)

1. Open Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1

2. Click on Mobile Device Settings'.

3. Click on "Connection Settings".

4. 'Allow USB connections' is checked.

5. Uncheck the option 'Allow connections to one of the following'.

6. This computer is connected to : Automatic.

7. Click on OK.


Close the Windows Mobile Device Center and connect the imate phone to PC. Follow the steps to create a partnership and get the synchronization options.

Troubleshooting (3)

Check for the following settings on imate devices.

1) Click on Start>>Settings>>Connection>>USB to PC.

2) Uncheck the option "Enable Advanced Network Functionality". Please try changing these settings as an alternative in case you find problems connecting your device and PC through ActiveSync.

3) Click on OK.

4) Disconnect the Device and reconnect it.

Troubleshooting (4)

Delete the partnership on your computer in Windows Mobile Device Center. click on "Mobile Device Settings">> Click on "End a Partnership".

After this on your device go to start>programs>active sync>menu>options>select windows mobile and tap on delete, after deleting the partnership try connecting your device again and syncing your device.

If that does not work in that case some personal firewalls may prevent WMDC from detecting your device, especially when using high security configurations.

If still that does not work, uninstall and reinstall Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 and follow all the above troubleshooting steps.

If the issue still persists then please backup all the data from phone memory and perform hard reset of the device as there may be problem with Active Sync on the device.

Check by connecting to another USB port of the Computer. If the issue still persists or you get the error “USB not recognized”. In that case there may be problem with the USB connecter of the Device as well.

GPS Configuration Steps

Ever have trouble setting up a GPS device on Windows Mobile 5? Ever wonder what that GPS control panel really does? Well, wonder no more...

Windows Mobile 5 has a feature called the GPS Intermediate Driver which allows multiple apps to share one GPS device. In the past, if one app had the GPS COM port open, no other app could use it. But the Intermediate Driver creates a virtual COM port that multiplexes the real GPS port, and can handle multiple client apps simultaneously.

Windows Mobile 5 also has a GPS control panel to allow you to configure the Intermediate Driver. The control panel lets you set the Hardware Port, which is the real port the GPS device is actually on, and the Program Port, which is the virtual COM port the Intermediate Driver exposes. It is called the Program Port because it is the COM port that GPS programs talk to. (They no longer talk directly to the Hardware Port, so it can be shared.)

Some Pocket PC OEMs hid the GPS control panel. However, it can be unhidden by going into the registry and deleting any "Redirect" or "Hide" keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings.

The Program Port can be any unused COM port. But you may be wondering how you know what the Hardware Port is. Well, if your device has a built-in GPS, then it is on a fixed port, and you need to figure out what that port number is. There are any number of ways to do this; I usually just do a web search on live.com for the model name, "port", and "GPS".

If you have a Bluetooth GPS, you need to set up the Hardware Port yourself (regardless of whether you are using the Intermediate Driver or not). Since this process can be a bit confusing, here are the step-by-step instructions:

Start/Settings/Connnections/Bluetooth

Check the "Turn on Bluetooth" checkbox.
Press the Device tab.
Press "Add new device..."
select your GPS device and press Next.

Check the "Serial Port" checkbox and press Finish.
Press the COM Ports tab.
Press "New outgoing port..."
Select your device and press Next.

You will see a COM port that has been chosen for your GPS. For example, COM0.
Press Finish.

Now your GPS is set up on COM0. If you do not want to use the Intermediate Driver to share the GPS port, just start your GPS app and configure it to use COM0. If you do want to use the Intermediate Driver:
Start/Settings/System/GPS. (If you do not see GPS listed, see the registry hack above.)

Set the "GPS Program Port" to any unused COM port, for example, COM9.
Press the Hardware tab.

Set the Hardware Port to COM0.
Set the baud rate to the baud rate of your Bluetooth GPS (usually 4800, or 9600).
Press OK.

Start your GPS app and configure it to use COM9.

As per sems.org,

Previously, you couldn’t issue Wireless IT commands or activate wirelessly. There was no MDS functionality and mostly sync was limited to Calendar, Contacts (with some BBC versions) and Emails. Now all PIM info can be synced and you wouldn’t have to change your APN to browse the internet (blackberry.net APN does not allow Internet access). Also now you can password protect the device, remotely lock and disable it as well. You can also enter Owner Info to display on the Today/Home Screen.
